Feel good gift options launched in time for Christmas

The third part of The Rooftop’s series on Ethical Christmas Shopping (See Parts 1 and 2 here) focuses on some of the social enterprises and small businesses offering feel good Christmas gifts with a charitable angle.

Jingle Wells

Jingle Wells is a festive campaign from craft beer brand Brewgooder, who are attempting to crowdfund the repair of 12 broken wells in Malawi this Christmas – turning on consistent clean water access for nearly 4,000 people – all through the power of beer.

Beer fans can opt to purchase a campaign reward pack via a crowdfunder that will include Brewgooder’s award winning craft lager, festive jumpers and gift cards, while crowdfund participants will also receive real-time updates from Malawi as the water projects are funded and completed.

Be My Bear

Award-winning teddy bear brand Be My Bear has teamed up with Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity to raise vital funds and awareness for seriously ill children across the UK this Christmas.

The partnership has seen the Roald Dahl Charity mascot ‘Marvin, the Marvellous Crocodile’ brought to life as a limited edition cuddly toy kit which children can make themselves at home. The lovable croc is priced at £20.00, with ten percent of all proceeds donated to the charity, which funds Roald Dahl specialist children’s nurses in communities across the UK.

Bee Friendly Soap

Luxury and ethical soap from social enterprise The Soap Co. is now available to buy from John Lewis. The eco and bee friendly collection is vegan and biodegradable, and available in 3 British inspired fragrances: Geranium & Rhubarb, Wild Nettle & Sage and Mulberry & Amber, as a hand wash, hand lotion or cold processed bar soap. The range also includes luxurious 100% natural Rose, Uplift and Detox bath oils and three stunning gift sets priced under £40.

Created with eco-certified ingredients that are not harmful to aquatic life, all products from The Soap Co. are crafted by a workforce 80% of whom are blind, disabled or otherwise disadvantaged.

Fidgetbum

Sleep deprivation is a problem for young people with autism and traditional weighted blankets which produce a sense of calm in patients have been criticised for not being flexible enough to allow a good nights sleep.

Figetbum is a new stretchy wrap-around device that holds bed covers in place without restricting the individual and has earned rave reviews from parents of autistic children across the UK, with occupational therapists such as Ellie Clarke hailing it as a safe alternative to weighted blankets.

Every Fidgetbum order quoting the special code AK018 will receive a discount and a £5 donation will be made to the charity Anna Kennedy Online, which works to raise awareness of autism in schools, colleges and workplaces and break down misconceptions.
