Arkbound Foundation, a charity publisher dedicated to expanding access to publishing for socially disadvantaged authors, has launched its debut Scottish novel.
The Gods of Frequency, released on the 15th June, is the latest work from Shane Johnstone and follows the story of working class musicians living in Glasgow, battling to break into the wealthy arts industry.
Shane Johnstone grew up in Govanhill, a largely deprived area in Glasgow and writes in English, Scots and Scottish Gaelic, all of which appear in the novel.
Since 2017, the Foundation has provided dozens of authors the opportunity to publish their works, with many having been shut out of traditional publishing routes, due to financial difficulties or a lack of formal education.

The Gods of Frequency is relatable to a range of readers, regardless of class. Shane’s light-hearted and quippy descriptions of the awkward horror that is adolescence appeals to everyone in adulthood.
The novel will be particularly appealing to those who have ever felt the limitation of opportunity due to their social status or struggled with addiction.
