Leeds man runs 100km to help West Yorkshire homeless

A Leeds man has raised £3,365 for a local homeless charity by taking part in Race to The Stones, a 100km ultra-endurance marathon.

Sat Mann took on the challenge of a lifetime, running 100km from Lewknor, in Oxfordshire, to Avebury Stone Circle, an English Heritage site in Wiltshire. The race took place over two days, with Sat camping overnight after the first 50km, before continuing on to the finish line the following morning.

Sat, who works at Leeds tech consultancy Axiologik, took part in the gruelling challenge to help raise vital funding for Simon on the Streets, an independent homeless charity delivering support to some of the most vulnerable people across West Yorkshire.

Sat said:

“When a friend suggested taking part in the challenge, I knew I needed to train hard if I was going to make it, but I also knew I needed to have a reason to keep going. Knowing I had raised so much money for a fantastic charity helped to pull me through when I felt like giving up and ultimately got me over the finish line.

“Homelessness is something that can happen so easily to anyone yet can be hard to overcome. Simon on the Streets is a fantastic charity, providing practical support to help end homelessness for people in Leeds, and I’m delighted I was able to raise such a fantastic amount of money to put towards their vital services.”

Simon on the Streets offers practical and emotional support to the homeless community in Leeds, Kirklees, and Bradford. All of its services are delivered on an outreach basis directly on the streets, ensuring support is there for vulnerable people who may not be engaging with other services.

Natalie Moran, CEO at Simon on the Streets, added:

“We’re so grateful for Sat’s efforts. This was a gruelling challenge which he took on to help highlight homelessness and our team’s mission to support those on our streets. The funds will go a long way in helping to keep our outreach workers out there.”
