Micro donations are making it easier for people to donate to charity, and experts in the charity sector believe this way of raising money is on the rise.

Many people assume that to give money to charities or causes they must donate a large sum to make it worthwhile. easyfundraising, a free fundraising platform, is challenging this perception by encouraging micro donations.

easyfundraising a free giving platform which allows online shoppers to get money back for their favourite charity or good cause when they make purchases through the easyfundraising website or app at no cost to the consumer. The platform states that over 22% of money raised via their site comes from donations of £1 or less.

Micro donations are often in the form of cash or an in-kind gift to a charity, which collectively make a big difference to the chosen charity or cause.

Since launching the charity shopping site in 2007, easyfundraising has raised and donated over £50 million to grassroots charities and causes set up in the UK.

James Moir, CEO of easyfundraising, said:

“Thousands of people use our site every day to raise small but vital amounts for their chosen charity or cause, which are particularly important for grassroots causes, whose only source of funding often comes from us.

“With the cost of living crisis making charity donations even more scarce, we want to make donating to charity easier and simpler for people.”

Fiona Vigar is the organiser of easyfundraising on The Friends of Reed’s School ’s Parent Teacher Association. She said:

“Fundraising can be really difficult to dedicate time to, so it’s great that every school can benefit by signing up and raising money. It’s easy to use and absolutely free of cost for supporters.”
