A community hospice in London has announced a full list of events and activities in the run up to Christmas.
Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice is a charity which provides free, high-quality palliative care and support to local people who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness, their families and professional carers.
This December, Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice will be able to bring back some of their popular in-person festive events, including Santa’s Grotto in Nelson’s Road Greenwich, as well as at Grade-1 listed Danson House in Bexleyheath. Santa Dash will also return to Danson’s Park on 5th December.
The hospice will also be holding virtual events, including Lights of Love which returns for its second year. This is a special service in remembrance of lost loved ones which will be streamed online on 5th December.
The hospice has faced many challenges over the past two years due to the pandemic. Like many charities, they found that opportunities to fundraise were severely limited due to lockdowns and uncertainty, meaning that the fundraising team had to adapt quickly to ensure they would still be able to raise the money required to facilitate their services.
Megan Boyle, Head of Fundraising commented:
We rely on the success of our fundraising events throughout the year, to make hospice care possible. The demand for our care only grew during the pandemic and since, meaning support from our community has never been more important.
We were overwhelmed and so incredibly grateful for all the support shown during the most difficult of times, and we are delighted to be returning to face to face events to be able to say in person: “thank you for being there for us”. It makes it that much more special.
Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice has been supporting local people for 25 years. Patients can access their services through the Hospice at Home service, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Woolwich, the 19-bed inpatient unit at Abbey Wood, and in community care homes.
