Stand Out Socks triumphs in Dragons’ Den

The founders of Warrington-based ethical sock company, Stand Out Socks, faced the scrutiny of the dragons and triumphed with not one, but four investment offers.

Co-founders, Christian, Ross and Natalie, navigated a tense grilling from the Dragons, particularly from Peter Jones, who challenged them with the question, “How does your socks Stand Out on a shelf?” In a surprising turn of events, a miraculous 360-degree shift led to an offer from Peter Jones.

Christian commented on the intense moment, stating:

“It was difficult to answer Peter’s question as every time we tried, he batted it back to us. The thing that makes Stand Out Socks recognisable on a shelf is our logo, our back story, and our vision.” He continued, “For every pair of socks sold, a portion goes towards opening paid employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities, spreading our message of inclusion and Down Syndrome awareness. By choosing to purchase Stand Out Socks, you choose a more inclusive world and equal opportunities for all.”

In the end, Stand Out Socks opted for a partnership with the duo of Steven Bartlett and Peter Jones. “The Den was nerve-wracking but fun. We filmed for nearly 2 hours, so what you’ve seen was just a tiny snippet,” shared Natalie, Co-Founder.

Since filming for the Den in June, Stand Out Socks is on track to achieve its vision of becoming the UK’s leading employer for people with learning disabilities. The company, receiving no funding or handouts, is focused on proving that there is a place for everybody at the business table, based on the merits of its staff and products. Christian added, “At Stand Out, we think differently. We are opening opportunities, destroying old stereotypes, and challenging the status quo.”

Natalie reflected on the changes since filming in the Den, noting:

“Since filming, we have employed our first 2 staff into paid roles, collaborated with fantastic corporate partners and sports teams. The future for Stand Out, with our dragon investors onboard, is looking like the sky’s the limit. We are working towards a more inclusive world. Our socks are a social movement, disrupting the market for many wonderful reasons.”

Adding a touch of star-studded charm to their Dragons’ Den experience, Ross, co-founder and inspiration behind Stand Out Socks, expressed absolute delight at meeting Sara Davies. Ross was particularly chuffed to have shared a dance with the Strictly Come Dancing star during their time on the show.
