A charity which runs community projects to end food poverty is serving free meals this Christmas and New Year in Peckham and Bow.

FoodCycle uses surplus food to provide meals for people at risk of food poverty. This Christmas and New Year, the charity is ensuring that residents of Peckham and Bow are able to sit down to a free three-course meal, made from food that would otherwise go to waste. The meals are 100% vegetarian, and are prepared by a team of volunteers.

The charity aims to connect the community by enabling people to share a meal and conversation, combating hunger and loneliness amongst the population. FoodCycle was founded in 2009 in London, and the charity has since opened other projects across the country.

To provide this valuable service, FoodCycle is in need of volunteers to help cook the meals on New Years Eve in both the Peckham and Bow Road projects. 

A representative from FoodCycle commented:

FoodCycle’s free community meals across the festive season will not only provide free meals for those that need them, but the chance for people from all walks of life to sit down together. Volunteer roles at FoodCycle are completely flexible without a minimum time commitment and roles range from collecting surplus food to cooking to welcoming guests when they arrive with a smile and a cup of tea.
