Solace to host International Women’s Day panel

Solace Women’s Aid, a charity dedicated to supporting female victims of violence and promoting the importance of women’s safety, will be hosting Powerful Together, an event for International Women’s Day.

The event on 9 March will bring together a varied panel of speakers, with experts on women’s safety and also centring survivors. Solace will join with other charities and organisations to discuss the ways that London can be made a safer city for women and girls. Broadcaster Zara Janjua will host the event, with speakers including Maya Tutton, co-founder of Our Streets Now, a campaign to end public sexual harassment. Also on the panel will be Aliyah Ali, founder of Daddyless Daughters, a CIC which works with girls affected by family breakdowns who are more at risk of grooming and abuse.

Zara Janjua, the host of Powerful Together, commented:

“It’s such an honour to join Solace for International Women’s Day 2022, I am thrilled to be hosting an event with so many brave and inspiring women. Every year we mark the day by sharing stories and challenging the inequalities we face – this year we have been forced to address the growing threat of violence against women and girls in London. We are haunted by the rise in cases, some have made headlines but too many women still suffer in silence. It’s time to magnify their voices and put women’s safety back on the agenda.”

Jane Jutsum, Director at Solace, added:

“We are thrilled that our speakers are so well placed to ensure we have an honest and relevant discussion, which will focus on the recent stream of news about the threat and reality of violence, that women and girls face in London. The theme of young women’s safety is particularly pertinent at the moment. We are looking forward to an engaging evening, celebrating the strength of survivors and bringing bright minds together to work towards a world free of violence against women and girls.”
