The national charity Heal Rewilding has been chosen to be one of the nature organisations taking part in the government’s new Projects for Nature platform.
Heal was launched in March 2020 as the UK’s first charity dedicated to being a rewilding landowner and it acquired its 460-acre foundation site, Heal Somerset, in December 2022.
The Projects for Nature scheme, designed to accelerate a movement to support nature and close the finance gap, has been set up by the Council for Sustainable Business, Accenture, Defra, Natural England and the Environment Agency. To achieve their goals, they’ve created a single digital platform which brings together businesses, other donors and nature organisations, allowing these organisations to access a new realm of funding opportunities. The platform is great for businesses too as it allows them to quickly and easily support projects delivering benefits for climate, nature and people.
Heal Rewilding is delighted to have been chosen to be part of this pioneering initiative and is excited about the prospect of acquiring crucial funding needed to support nature recovery at their foundation rewilding site, Heal Somerset. The charity’s appeal on Projects for Nature features over 20 activities which can be supported, including barn owl boxes, wildlife cameras, a wildlife lake, a wheelchair-accessible path and many more.
Jan Stannard, Co-founder and Chair of Trustees of Heal, said:
“I’m really impressed that Defra, Natural England and the Environment Agency have taken this entrepreneurial approach to bridging the nature funding gap. By enabling businesses and the wider public, who want to help nature, to find and support good projects delivering the impact on the ground, much more funding could flow at speed. We are delighted to be involved and to play our part in making it a success.”.
